Recyclable Materials - Description and Handling Procedures

Specific material Description Handling instructions Picture
Alkaline battery Standard dry cell batteries, AAA on up, used in flashlights, portable radios, etc. Place in plastic bag.
Ni-cad battery Common rechargeable batteries, similar to above but often of specialized shapes. Carry in plastic bag.
Vehicle battery Lead-acid auto, truck, motorcycle, and/or marine batteries. Wear heavy rubber gloves and goggles when handling spent batteries. Most sites will not handle cracked or leaking batteries. These should be placed in a sturdy, acid-resistant, leak-proof container and taken to a household hazardous waste facility.
