1PET-bottle #1 PET bottles Rinse out with water and flatten.
1PET-other #1 PET items of other shapes Do not mix with bottles; be sure site accepts plastic items that are not bottles.
2HDPE-colored bottle #2 HDPE bottles with solid color (including white as in Clorox) Rinse out with water and flatten.
2HDPE-natural bottle/jug #2 HDPE uncolored milk/water/juice jugs or bottles. Rinse out with water and flatten.
2HDPE-oil bottle #2 HDPE motor oil bottles Drain residual oil into waste oil container for 72 hours; wipe off any oil or grease on outside of bottle.
2HDPE-tubs, cups #2 HDPE tubs & cups (margarine, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.) Rinse out with water.
2or4 bags #2 HDPE and/or #4 LDPE shopping or produce bags. Most sites require sorting and accept only limited kinds of bags. Call first. Also try your local supermarkets.
3PVC, ABS #3 PVC containers, or PVC/ABS pipe Some sites take only bottles, while others take other items made from this kind of plastic but only in very large volumes. Call first.
4LDPE #4 LDPE items (other than bags) Some sites take only bottles, while others take other items made from this kind of plastic but only in very large volumes. Call first.
5PP (polypropylene) #5 PP (polypropylene) items. Some sites take only bottles, while others take other items made from this kind of plastic but only in very large volumes. Call first.
6PS-blocks Styrofoam blocks or other large pieces molded to fit what they protect. Keep as clean as possible, for reuse.
6PS-food service Polystyrene food containers, either solid or foam. Rinse clean first. Do not deposit foam packing material at site that takes only food containers!
6PS-peanuts Loosefill styrofoam packaging stuff. Keep as clean as possible, for reuse. Try local packaging services (under that heading in yellow pages) also.
Shrinkwrap Shrinkwrap, as used in shipping freight. Usually handled in large volumes only.
